DISTINGUISHED PANELISTS ANNOUNCED FOR BURNHAM SYMPOSIUM


Chicago, IL (August 11, 2009): An exceptional panel of visionary pragmatists will explore strategic questions about 21st century urban development at the Ely Chapter of Lambda Alpha International’s (LAI) symposium commemorating the centennial of the 1909 Plan of Chicago by Daniel H. Burnham and Edward H. Bennett. The symposium, Burnham’s Plan of Chicago: History or Inspiration? will be held on Friday, October 23, 2009 from 7:30 am to 10:00 am at the Drake Hotel in Chicago.



The Symposium moderator is Carol Coletta, Chicago, President and CEO of CEOs for Cities. She is the host and producer of the nationally syndicated public radio show “Smart City”. Panelists include Howard Decker, Washington, DC, Architect and Planner; Helen Davis Johnson, Chattanooga, TN, Co-founder and Creative Strategist, CreateHere; Mary Ludgin, Chicago, Managing Director of Global Investment Research, Heitman; Wellington “Duke” Reiter, Chicago, President, School of the Art Institute; David Roeder, Chicago, Columnist, Chicago Sun-Times; and Robert Yaro, New York City, President, Regional Planning Association.

Mike Mallon, President of the Ely Chapter of LAI stated, “We’re thrilled to have drawn from the national ranks of top planners and land use practitioners to share their perspective on Burnham’s plan and how it may influence future planning.” Attendees will receive a complimentary copy of the recently published book: The Plan of Chicago @ 100: 15 Views of Burnham’s Legacy for a New Century.

Lambda Alpha International, the Honorary Society for the Advancement of Land Economics, provides a forum for the study and advancement of land economics where the "winnowing and sifting" of ideas takes place in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
